KNMI Library: Under construction…
Next months, the traditional library and reading room of KNMI will be transformed into a more general information centre for both staff and external parties interested in climate, weather, seismology and KNMI itself.
Please note that during this period of transformation, most paper journals and reference books will be stored elsewhere, so the availability of these will be limited. We would like to apologize for this inconvenience.
When the actual building works are in progress, no external visitors will have direct access to the library and its collection. However, you will be able to contact us by mail and telephone
The collection
Founded in 1854, the KNMI Library hosts the national book collection on meteorology, climatology, physical oceanography, seismology and related geophysical subjects for The Netherlands. Its consists of around 180.000 volumes covering different aspects, like historical meteorological observations, scientific textbooks and popular publications. The KNMI Library has subscriptions to more than 200 journals. Most are available electronically. However, due to restrictions in copyright, these can be consulted only via the local intranet.

Publications are available for consultation by KNMI-staff as well as by the general public. Journal articles can be photocopied or printed and most books may be borrowed. External visitors are requested to make an appointment to use the facilities in the reading room.( +3130 2206 855 (Monday till Friday 09.00-12.00 and 13.30-16.00 hour or by e-mail). Documents in the KNMI Library are also available through national inter-library loan, although there are some restrictions regarding valuable and/or antique books. A catalogue, hosted by the Dutch government and containing PDF”s of publications of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (1984 –present, with even some older ones), is available on the internet.
