Climate change science continues to provide new knowledge about the climate system. Based on this knowledge, updated projections are derived for the regional changes that are associated with global warming. These projections form the basis for a future generation climate scenarios for the Netherlands.

A new generation of updated scenarios will be available in 2013. Work is in progress towards these new KNMI'next scenarios.

A workshop for user groups has been organised at KNMI in De Bilt on 11 September 2008. The workshop highlighted the newest results of climate change research and placed these results in the context of the KNMI'06 climate scenarios. Also, the progress towards the new generation KNMI'next scenarios (to be published in 2013) has been presented and discussed.

On the 29th of July, KNMI has issued a new scenario publication entitled: "Climate change in the Netherlands; supplements to the KNMI'06 scenarios". In this publication we assess the implications of recent research results for the scenarios of 2006. Additional data are presented and the roadmap towards the next generation of climate scenarios for the Netherlands is outlined.
