Global clear-sky UV index based on GOME
NOTICE:
Since 22 June there are severe problems with GOME and
ERS-2 and
almost no data is received; for details see
News on ERS at
ESA.
Because of these problems, the data assimilation, UV index and
cloud information near-real time deliveries have been stopped.
For the UV index forecast based on SCIAMACHY data,
see the TEMIS
website
The Fast Delivery Service on this page provides the clear-sky UV index at noon
for today and the following 4 days. The UV index is the effective UV-B
irradiance (1 unit equals 25 mW/m2) reaching the Earth's surface.
This UV index is valid for clear-sky conditions and will usually be lower
for cloudy skies or polluted areas. Under partially cloudy conditions the
UV index can be higher for short time periods. The UV index can be up to a
factor 2 higher when the Earth's surface is covered with snow.
