TMCF PGE: SPECCAL

This TMCF PGE performs spectral calibrations for all solar measurements, including:

  • Global (binning factor 8) sun over quartz volume diffuser measurements.
  • Global (binning factor 8) sun over regular aluminium diffuser measurements.
  • Global (binning factor 8) sun over backup aluminium diffuser measurements.
  • Spatial zoom-in (binning factor 4) sun over quartz volume diffuser measurements.
  • Unbinned (binning factor 1) sun over quartz volume diffuser measurements.

The spectral calibration algorithm is based on calculating the correlation between a high resolution solar reference spectrum convolved with the measured spectral slit functions with the measured solar irradiance spectrum for a number of narrow spectral windows. The two spectra are shifted in wavelength with respect to each other and the shift with the highest correlation provides the best spectral calibration for the spectral window under consideration. The spectral calibration of the whole channel is then calculated from the shifts of the individual windows.
The output products are stored in the TMCF database, along with their metadata.
