OMI Calibration and Validation Announcement of Opportunity
Objectives Of This Call
In June 2004 the Netherlands Agency for Aerospace Programs (NIVR), the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and the European Space Agency (ESA) announced an opportunity to perform calibration and validation of data from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) onboard of the NASA EOS-Aura satellite. This Calibration and Validation call for proposals is open worldwide. The primary objectives of this call are (i) a comprehensive validation of OMI data and products to quantify its accuracy and provide validation of remotely sensed atmospheric parameters under various atmospheric circumstances, over all seasons, covering all latitudes and longitudes, including polluted conditions and special events such as volcanism and polar spring atmospheric chemistry, and (ii) cross calibration and validation of OMI data with ESA ERS and ENVISAT data.
The secondary objective is to perform early scientific investigations based on early-validated OMI data products to study the composition, chemistry, and dynamics of the Earth's upper and lower atmosphere. Here the joint exploitation of OMI data and ESA ERS and ENVISAT data products is strongly encouraged.
Joining OMI Validation
In case you are interested in joining the OMI validation activities, please send an email to Mark Kroon at the OMI Validation Office at KNMI (contact details below). In return, you will receive a set of straightforward instructions on how to obtain access to OMI data. The instructions depend on whether you wish to receive access to provisionally or publicly released OMI data products.
