With the CSM climate model it is possible to make so called "restart-files". With these files it is possible to restart the simulation at any particular timestep. An exact reproduction of the simulation starting from such a restart is possible. These restartfiles are crucial for our experiment because in case of a crash of the "TERAS" supercomputer we do not have to start all over again, but we can continue the simulation starting from the most recent restartfile. Perhaps even more important; it is possible to analyse extreme events such as a superstorm by rerunning the model during the period of the event and outputting much more diagnostics relevant for the event.

This will take too much space on the Teras. We decided to write restartfiles every year
which will take 672 Gbytes.
