SPEEDO

The SPEEDO model is an 'intermediate-complexity', three-dimensional coupled atmosphere-ocean-sea ice General Circulation Model.
The atmospheric component is the KNMI version of the Speedy model developed at ICTP, a spectral T30 global eight level primitive equation model. The oceanic component is the CLIO model which is a primitive equation, free-surface ocean general circulation model coupled to a thermodynamic-dynamic sea-ice model developed at UCL. In addition to CLIO, a prescribed SST and a slab ocean model are included. Two land models are available: a prescribed land surface model and a land-bucket model with a simple hyrological cycle.

Download
You can download a 70 Mb gzipped tar file containing the source code of the coupled model SPEEDO: SPEEDO.tar.gz. Installation instructions are included in the package.

Postprocessing
Speedy creates output files in the GrADS format which can be converted to NetCDF with grads2nc. CLIO outputs data as fortran binary files. A tool to convert these files to NetCDF is included. The other models create NetCDF output files.

Support
SPEEDO is supported at the S0 level (see also the page on support levels). (More information about the CLIO model is also available here.) The following combinations of component models have been used to complete 20 year test runs: Speedy-Land-Sea, Speedy-LBM-Sea, Speedy-LBM-FOcean, Speedy-LBM-SlabOcean, and Speedy-LBM-CLIO. See the instructions included with the package for more information.
