Abstract
Land surface models used in Numerical Weather Prediction and climate projections have seen considerable development. Here we present an overview of initiatives that are a part of the Global Land Atmosphere System Study (GLASS), including the antecedent community modelling efforts that led up to the formation of GLASS. We also address the heritage of GLASS in operational weather/climate centers.
