CKO

The Centre for Climate Research

The Centre for Climate Research (CKO) is a co-operation between the institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (IMAU) of Utrecht University, the National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection (RIVM), and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). The primary aim of CKO is to improve co-ordination and co-operation among the parties in the field of climate research. The parties involved have formed a Supervisory Board to oversee the implementation of the co-operation agreement. In addition, a Programme Board has been created whose task it is to give direct guidance in the execution of the co-operation agreement. Representatives of LUW, SRON and TNO attend its meeting as observers. The secretariats of both the Supervisory Board and the Programme Board are located at KNMI, P.O. Box 201, 3730 AE De Bilt, the Netherlands.

The Participating Institutes
The Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (IMAU) of Utrecht University concentrates on carrying out a programme of fundamental research. Strategic and applied research is taking place at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), while aspects related to air quality and to the chemical composition of the atmosphere are being studied at the National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection (RIVM). In addition, RIVM is engaged in efforts to incorporate the results of climate research into comprehensive policy models which include other elements, like socio-economic aspects.
