Research and development on air quality focuses on the following topics:
  • Air quality models.
  • Operational air quality forecasts.
  • Data assimilation approaches for surface and satellite air quality measurements.

The main tool for this work is the Dutch regional air quality model Lotos-Euros. Lotos-Euros is currently developed by the Dutch institutes TNO, RIVM, PBL and KNMI.
