How to get to KNMI?

Schiphol Airport -> Utrecht Centraal

  • By train from "Schiphol" to "Utrecht Centraal"

    • Current schedule (Valid until December 2010):

    • These trains run every hour at the same time. During the night other route/times apply.
    • You do not travel to or through Amsterdam Centraal
    • Price of a train-ticket (2nd class) single: €7,70; day-return: €15,00.
    • You can also try the Domestic journey planner on the web-site of the Dutch railways (www.ns.nl).
    • Unofficial information on the Dutch railways can be found on the railfan server.

  • You can take a TAXI at Schiphol directly to KNMI. Utrechtse Taxi Centrale (UTC) has special offers (book early!), and a counter at schiphol.
    • Cost: € 65 (1-4 persons)
    • Takes at least 34 minutes, but probably longer

  • You can rent a car at Schiphol.
    • The price is (cheapest) € 70, to (middle class) € 100.

Utrecht Centraal -> KNMI

  • You can travel by bus from Utrecht Centraal to KNMI.

    • Take exit "streekbussen" (regional busses) of the railway station, and proceed to platform "A".
    • There are 4 lines going to KNMI (Connexxion lines #50, #52, #53, #74).
    • The table below is only an indication, not the complete timetable.

      • To Address "wilhelminalaan 12" "de bilt"
    • Note that there is an hourly bus all night.
    • Bus #77 to "Bilthoven" does not come close to KNMI, but you can still use it. The stop is indicated on map#2 with "57".
    • Get off at bus-stop "Tunneltje De Bilt". Ask the driver to notify you when you arrive. (After leaving Utrecht, you will cross under the highway (A27), then pass a petrol-station, and a park on your left. Now it is time to press the "stop" button.)
    • Walk to KNMI (5 minutes): Cross the small bridge and turn right. Follow the Emmalaan (it curves to the left) to the KNMI entrance. See the red line on map#2.
    • Bus-ticket: you can pay in the bus (€ 2,40). When you travel with two or more together it is cheaper to buy a "15-strippenkaart" in advance. (price = € 7,60). The bus to De Bilt takes 3 strips. (So one 15-strippenkaart will take two persons to KNMI, and back to Utrecht Centraal.)
    • The 15-strippenkaart can be bought at the airport in:
      • AKO newsstands
      • Albert Heijn Supermarket
      • Food Village
      • TNT service point (Thanks: hetismij)
    • Note: The strippenkaart will be phased out in 2011. More information on its replacement here (3 pages). (The "official" site is incomprehensible).

  • You can also take a TAXI. You will find them on the platform 1 side of the railway station. (See map#1). The price is in the order of € 16.

  • You can rent a bike at Utrecht Centraal. Bikes can be rented at the bike-garage under platforms 1&2&3. De Bilt is 5.5 km east of Utrecht. (See red line on the map#1). The cost is € 5,00 rent and € 50,00 bail.

Utrecht Centraal -> Hotel De Biltse Hoek

  • For Hotel De Biltse Hoek you also take bus stop "Tunneltje De Bilt". Cross the road taken by the bus, (use the tunnel). Follow narrow road ("kapelweg") till the end. Turn right ("dorpsstraat"). Cross the traffic lights and continue straight ahead in the direction Zeist ("De holle bilt"). After some 500 meters you see at you right Hotel De Biltse Hoek (in total a 10 minutes walk).   • You can also find fine hotels in the city of Utrecht, which is nearby, for example in the Jaarbeurs area, see map#1.

International trains

  • Köln (Germany) -> Utrecht Centraal
    12 direct trains per day. Takes 3:14 hours.

  • Brussels (Belgium) -> Utrecht Centraal
    At least one train per hour. Change in Rotterdam (platform 14). Takes 2:40 hours.
