Abstract
In the period 2000-2002 a swarm of earthquakes occurred in the southern part of the Netherlands, close to the village of Voerendaal. A total number of 136 earthquakes has been recorded with local magnitudes varying between -0.1 and 3.9 and depths around 5 km. 15 of these events have a magnitude of 2.0 or higher. An accurate location of these larger events could be determined using correlation techniques. Cross-correlation of the entire dataset showed clustering of the smaller events. Variations in source mechanism and parameters are studied and a comparison was made between the local magnitudes and moment magnitudes.
