The Cabauw site has been the experimental research site of the KNMI since 1973. It's main landmark is the 213 m high meteorological mast. Since May 2002 eight Dutch research institutes co-operate in CESAR (Cabauw Experimental Site for Atmospheric Research) to develop Cabauw into a major scientific international site for remote sensing, atmospheric research and climate monitoring.

See the map on how to get to Cabauw. Note that you have to leave the N210 road at the traffic lights at the western border of the village "Lopik". After leaving the N210 turn immediately left again on to the smaller road parallel to the N210 but on the other side of the small waterway.
If you want to take your time, the scenic road from Haastrecht to Schoonhoven or the small winding road from Linschoten to Oudewater are worth the detour. Oudewater is nice scenic town with some canals and old buildings.
From Central Railway Station in Utrecht take bus 195 in direction of Rotterdam. The buses leave every half-hour at hh:12 and hh:42 from the station. It takes about 40 minutes to get to Lopik. Leave the bus at the last bus stop in Lopik (just after the last traffic lights), ask the driver if you are not sure about the correct bus stop. From the bus stop it is a 15 min. walk to the tower itself. You need a "strippenkaart" and the ride to Lopik will cost you 7 "strippen".
