KNMI/ECMWF meteo plots for INCA
This page gives access to meteo information prepared by KNMI (Peter van Velthoven) for the
INCA experiments
that took place in March-April 2000 at Punta Arenas and in Prestwick in September-October 2000.
Note that:
- From the first flight up to the flight of 10 April 2000 (in fact up to
11 April 2000 0 UTC) I used updated model fields from ECMWF Experimental
Version 5012.
The reason is a problem with temperature and humidity near the tropopause in the standard version (personal communication, ECMWF).
- The relative humidity from ECMWF is with respect to liquid water above 0 C,
but with respect to ice below 0 C. Therefore it rarely exceeds 100%.
The Falcon RH is always with respect to liquid water.
- Potential temperatures, RH and H2O mixing ratio in the used Falcon datafiles from
the server were incomplete, so that corresponding data curves in
the synthesized flight data plots are incomplete as well. The Falcon temperature
data were complete though.
Please report any other problems.
(Compressed) tar-files for the first campaign - Punta Arenas):
- All synthesized flight data in ascii-format in file incacrdata.tar.Z (520.189 bytes) - split in general (trackML..-files) and cloud data (trackCL..-files). Interpolated in space and time
to the Falcon position from 6-hrly ECMWF analyses (ML..) resp. first guess (6 hour forecast) fields (CL..).
The data columns are described in the .hdr files. The
actual data files have extension .cr.
The data columns are separated by tabs.

- All trajectory data in ascii-format in file incatrajdata.tar.Z (5.305.333 bytes). The format is described in descriptionTRAJ.txt.
The files QA_YYMMDDHH.TR and QB_YYMMDDHH.TR contain the 15 trajectories (for every 2 minute of
flight) for the half hour before (QA: HH:30-HH:58) resp. after HH (QB: HH:00-HH:28).

The file labels Q?_YYMMDDHH are also indicated in these plots.
