Workshop group discussion |
||||||
GeneralThe workshop is organised to define the outlines of work that has to be carried out in the near future to deal with the impact of land-atmosphere interaction on model calibration and data assimilation. The best outcome of this workshop would be a strategy to move beyond the current approach to off-line land-surface modelling but without going to the fully coupled thing. The GLASS science panel, who initiated the workshop, can then ensure that the ideas which come out of the workshop are translated into projects and advances in the community at large. The discussion will be split in two groups. The first group would be tasked with defining a way of introducing some land-surface/atmosphere interactions in data assimilation systems. The second group should have the same task but for off-line validation and comparison of land-surface schemes (i.e. PILPS/GSWP applications). Each group would have to provide answers to the following questions :
OrganisationAfter a brief introduction thw attendents will be split in two groups, where the discussion will be held. A reporter are appointed in the groups. After lunch a plenary session will be held to discuss the outcome of the group discussions. The minutes of this plenary session will be regarded as the main outcome of the workshop. Below a proposed distribution of persons over the two groups is indicated. A more or less random distribution between people with an NWP and climate modellinf background has been applied. Changes may be arranged prior to the group discussion.
