Informatie
over EuroGOOS United Nations Agencies (IOC, WMO, UNEP) and the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU) established the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) in 1991. EuroGOOS was established in 1994 as an Association of European national agencies and institutions active in the field of monitoring and forecasting the state of the marine environment. EuroGOOS currently has 30 members in 16 countries and has two thrusts: (1) to foster the collaborative development of local operational systems designed to provide end users in the public and private sectors with environmental information they need about the seas around Europe and in more distant regions where there are special European interests; and (2) to provide a concerted European input to the global monitoring and analysis system which will provide information about the changing state of the open ocean needed by local operational systems wherever they exist.
European Operational Oceanography: Present and Future
The goal of the Conference is to review the progress of operational oceanography during the past three years on both European and global scale, identifying gaps in the current observing and forecasting capacity and plan the next steps towards efficient marine environment predictions.
