Research School
at Anton de Kom University of Suriname, 13-17 March 2006

Objectives
A Research School is organized by STAR for advanced students interested in environmental sciences or related fields, as well as for researchers involved in tropical atmospheric research. The objectives are:
1. To build capacity for global change research and monitoring in Suriname,
2. To present and discuss the results of the atmospheric observation program of Paramaribo station,
3. To discuss the future devolpments of this unique tropical observation site, and future international collaboration with other research groups.

Location
The research school will be hosted by AdeK (Anton de Kom University) and held on the pleasant campus grounds of the university.

Program

The program consists of invited lectures on atmospheric science and on measurement campaigns in Suriname and other tropical sites. In the afternoon time is allocated for a student practicum in support of the lectures. During the research school a booklet with proceedings will be produced. The program contains two excursions: to the tropical resort of Overbridge (on Wednesday afternoon 15 March) and to the indian village on the north-east coast of Suriname, named Galibi (in the weekend following the research school, on 18-19 March 2006). Galibi is located on a sandy beach, one of the few beaches in the world where sea turtles lay their eggs - around March month, when the excursion is also held!
