7-9 June 2004, De Bilt, The Netherlands.
1st announcement:
Dear colleagues,
Following earlier meetings in Kiel and Miami, a Tropical Atlantic Workshop will be held from 7-10 June 2004 at KNMI in de Bilt (the Netherlands).
The workshop will bring together modellers and observationalists with expertise in the Tropical Atlantic. The objectives of the workshop are to review recent progress in measuring and modelling Tropical Atlantic circulation and variability, to coordinate exisisting plans and to define future needs for observational and modelling experiments.
The subjects which will be discussed include insights on Tropical Atlantic circulation and variability as derived from hydrographic and satellite data, ocean model results and coupled ocean/atmosphere model results. The scope will be broader than Tropical Atlantic oceanography and include relationships between oceanic variability and atmospheric variability, such as ITCZ and monsoon variability. In addition, coordination of plans which are currently developed within for instance the Clivar framework will be discussed.
Please, send me an email if you are interested to attend this meeting. More details on the program and requests for contributions will be send on a later stage.
Participants (confirmed):

How to reach KNMI:
KNMI is located in the village "de Bilt" which is very
close to the city of "Utrecht".
A description on how to reach Utrecht or KNMI can be found at: route to KNMI
Hotels:
Basically, there are two options:
1) Stay in de Bilt, which is walking distance to KNMI, but the
neighbourhood is not very lively. However, there are regular busses to
the centre of Utrecht.
2) Stay in the city of Utrecht which is very close to de Bilt (busses
take about 15 mins to get from busstops in the centre to the busstop at
KNMI or rent a bike). Utrecht has a nice old city centre with many
hotels, restaurants,
bars, shops etc.
