Fog Week

During the second week of January 2009 EUMeTrain will organise a fog training week in which there will be series of online lectures dealing with the subject of fog with the emphasis on nowcasting fog with satellite. You are all invited to participate in this training week. You will find more information on the different lectures including the links to register here.

Satrep Weather Briefing

Also in the summermonths there will be live weatherbriefings organised by Satrep Online. Note that because of the convective outlook these sessions will take place at 10UTC! The next session is planned for 24 July. You can still register for this session here

Convection Training Week

During the first week of June 2008 EUMeTrain organised a successful training week on convection. The event week consisted of several online sessions dealing with the nowcasting of convection from satellite.

For those of you have missed this event, all the sessions have been recorded and can be downloaded and play backed accordingly here.

Mediterranean Satrep

The Satrep website is now offering a link to the Mediterranean Satrep. This Satrep is produced daily by the Italian Meteorological Service at 12UTC. The Mediterranean Satrep offers an extended field of view (FOV) towards the south where a large part of Northern Africa is now also covered. The contact person for the Mediterranean Satrep is Mr. Teodoro La Rocca.

Satrep Online Weather Briefing

The April weather briefing of 2008 is planned for 24 April 2008 at 08 UTC. Registration for this satrep online briefing is still open and you can do that here.

Satrep Online

The Satrep Online has moved to a new location at http://www.satreponline.org.

From this new address we can now offer you a lot more such as:

- Higher resolution images
- Possibility to overlay NWP on top of Meteosat Second Generation RGBs.
- The Satrep as produced by Austrian Met Service serves as an extra overlay.
- An archive that will go back 4 months in time
- The current weather

EUMETSAT new presentation of Derived Products

EUMETSAT has developed a new, improved interface to view Near Real Time Derived Products on the website. The new web visualisation has several enhancements to improve interactive use, including a new download feature, overlapping segments to avoid slicing countries in two, as well as the possibility to zoom in and out of an image.

The Derived Products that are available are: Dust, Fog, Airmass, MPE, Fire, Volcanic Ash, Global Instability Index (GII) and Europe seen with the High Resolution Visible channel (E-View).
This new web interface will replace the existing service in the near future.

Dust Storm Northern Africa

North Africa experienced a rapid developing dperession on the 22nd February 2007. On ther cyclonic side the depression swirls up large amounts of dust which can be beatifully tracked by MSG. Take the opportunity to view these images and discuss the Dust storm here.

Kyrill

On 18th January Storm Kyrill raged over Western Europe leading to excessive damage and costing the lives of twenty persons. In this topic the Airmass RGB derived from Meteosat 8 is used to present the storm.
