The wind processing software was developed in the context of the EUMETSAT Numerical Weather Prediction Satellite Application Facility (NWP SAF). Software was developed to process scatterometer data from ERS, SeaWinds and ASCAT scatterometers. It is currently used (in parts) by several users, including KNMI. Its wind products are displayed on the web in near real time.

The NWP SAF is a project by the Met Office (UK), ECMWF, Météo France and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). The SeaWinds Data Processor, SDP version 2, is obtainable through the software request form on the NWP SAF scatterometer pages. The ASCAT Wind Data Processor, AWDP version 1, which is also capable of processing ERS scatterometer data, is obtainable through the software request form on the NWP SAF scatterometer pages.
