KNMI operates a lightning detection network that is based on the Safir technologogy from Vaisala/Dimensions. This system aquires data from 7 detection sites, 4 of them operated by KNMI and situated in the Netherlands, the other 3 operated by the Belgium Met Service KMI and, of course, located in Belgium. Data processed by this system discriminates between Cloud to Cloud discharches (CC) and Cloud to Ground discharches (CG). [Read more] (in dutch)
