Research topics

My research focusses on atmospheric composition models and measurements, and especially on the forecasts of air quality on a regional scale. Main topics:
(1) Development of an air quality prediction system for the Netherlands and Europe, based on regional-scale aerosol-chemistry-transport models, surface and satellite observations.
(2) Observations of global distributions of atmospheric trace gases by means of satellite spectrometers: Ozone and nitrogen dioxide measured by the GOME spectrometer on board of the European ERS-2 satellite, SCIAMACHY on Envisat, OMI on EOS-Aura and by future satellite missions.
(3) Merging those observations with atmospheric models that describe the chemistry and dynamics of the Earth's atmosphere (data assimilation).
