Time-lapse movies of a rising plume in the convective boundary-layer as diagnosed during large-eddy simulations:
Total specific humidity
Vertical velocity
Condensate
The volume that is visualized corresponds to a passive scalar that gets advected around by the rising plume. The shading highlights a certain range of values for a variable of choice. The transparency of the volume is proportional to its thickness.

The aim of this research is to investigate how rising plumes mix with their environment. This knowledge is crucial for an accurate representation of weather regimes like shallow cumulus and deep convection in numerical predictions of weather and climate.
