Dutch Atmospheric Large Eddy Simulation (DALES) Model
Introduction
The Dutch Atmospheric Large Eddy Simulation (DALES) is a non-hydrostatic atmosphere model that has been developed at KNMI and the University of Utrecht in the nineties. It serves as a virtual atmospheric laboratory to do study turbulence, convection, chemistry transport and cloud related processes in the clear and cloudy boundary layer. Dutch research groups have used the model to participate in intercomparison studies organized by the GEWEX Atmosphere System Studies (GASS). These institutes include:
- Royal Netherlands Institute of Meteorology (KNMI)
- A. Pier Siebesma, siebesma@knmi.nl
- Technical University Delft (TUD)
- Contact person: H.J.J. Jonker H.J.J.Jonker@TUDelft.nl
LES Interests: clear and cloudy boundary layer, 3d-visualisation.
- Stephan de Roode, S.R.DEROODE@tudelft.nl
LES Interests: convective clear and cloudy boundary layer, precipitating cumulus and stratocumulus, parameterization development.
- Wageningen University (WU)
- Contact person: J. Villa Jordi.Villa@wur.nl
LES Interests: Atmospheric chemistry, dry boundary layer.
