Activities and research interests:
- I am the chair of the Chemistry and Climate Division at KNMI.
- I am the coordinator of the EU-project HYMN that investigates the life cycles of methane, nitrous oxide and hydrogen in the atmosphere and their coupling with the biosphere.
- Atmospheric effects of emissions by aviation, ships and road traffic are investigated in the EU-project Quantify. The webpage of Activity 3 of Quantify (Large Scale Modelling) is maintained here at KNMI by me.
- I coordinate WP4.1.3 (Modelling the interactions between aerosols/chemistry and the atmosphere) of the EU AMMA project. The webpage of WP4.1.3 is maintained here at KNMI by me.
- I coordinate the access of Dutch researchers to ECMWF on behalf of the head of the Department of Climate Research and Seismology.
- I am a member of the Netherlands IPY committee (for KNMI) and represent the Netherlands in the WMO EC Panel of Experts on Antarctic Meteorology.
- I provide support and analysis to field campaigns and instrumented aircraft measurements. These concern measurements of the atmospheric composition, that we use for evaluating our global atmospheric chemistry models, e.g. TM4/TM5.
In particular, there is info for
- I also provide (daily updated) plots of time series of stratospheric meteorological parameters (based on ECMWF analyses and compared to the ERA interim (EI) 30-year climatology):
