Andrea has joined KNMI as Data Scientist in 2016 after matured research experience at the University of Groningen (Ph.D. and Postdoc) and at IBM Research (Visiting Postdoc) in the domain of smart grid, distributed systems, and analytics. He is now Data Scientist at the KNMI DataLab investigating relationships between meteorological variables and other domains where weather and climate play a major role. He also experiments technologies and approaches to manage Big Data for KNMI DataLab projects.
Andrea is involved in several projects that are part of the KNMI DataLab project portfolio. In particular, he is currently researching a machine learning approach for using camera images for automatic fog detection (https://github.com/KNMI-DataLab/fogDec/) for early warnings purposes.
