Software Developer (MSc. Geophysics) at ORFEUS Data Center (ODC; hosted by KNMI). ORFEUS (Observatories and Research Facilities for European Seismology) is the non-profit organization to coordinate and promote digital, broadband seismology in the European-Mediterranean area. ORFEUS is the European infrastructure for seismic waveforms within EPOS and the related ESFRI H2020 project EPOS-IP. The KNMI is hosting the ORFEUS Data Center (ODC), one of the key components in ORFEUS and its federated data archive EIDA (European Integrated Data Archive), providing access to more than 6000 seismic stations. Within the ODC, Mathijs works as a software engineer on services being developed within EPOS-IP and is focused on the development of next-generation EIDA tools and services, specifically targeting innovative data quality services. His expertise covers novel techniques in building interactive services through a combination of web services and graphical web interfaces for geoscientific research communities. In addition to front-end services, his work covers the entire stack, including database design and server-side engineering to provide users with consistent, fast, and reliable data access. Besides the activities within EPOS-IP, he is also in charge of the maintenance and future development of innovative online analysis applications in other geoscientific fields, with in particular Paleomagnetism.org, that has been founded in collaboration with Utrecht University in 2015.
