Dr. Gertie (G.T.) Geertsema works as a senior scientist in the R&D Climate and Weather Models Department at KNMI. She graduated in Astronomy and Mathematics at the university of Groningen (RUG-NL). She holds a PhD in Astronomy, Physics and Mathematics received at University of Utrecht (RUU-NL) on the thesis " Magneto Hydrodynamic Turbulence in Accretion Disks". Her research field in meteorology focuses on the optimal use of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models via the development of post-processing models and tools and guidance to end users. Expertise is emergency response, wind energy, wind in the boundary layer, model evaluation and model output post processing. In the past ten years she has been actively involved in the dissemination of meteorological information for renewable energy projects in general and wind energy in particular. The other main research topic is the development of dispersion models and the optimal use of weather forecasts for emergency response.
