GEOMON - Select Validation Sites

GEOMon stands for Global Earth Observation and Monitoring of the Atmosphere. It was funded under the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme. The overall goal of this project was to sustain and analyse European ground-based observations of atmospheric composition, complementary to satellite measurements, in order to quantify and understand ongoing atmospheric changes.

As part of the GEOMon project we developed a web-based tool to select validation sites for Tropospheric Satellite Products. In this web tool several maps are provided of satellite and model-based climatologies of tropospheric NO2, O3, and CO, and of clouds, albedo, snow and ice cover. You can select a season and a threshold for each of the datasets (e.g. cloud cover less than 50% and tropospheric NO2 column greater than 1016 molec/cm2), and the tool will show the geographic areas where these conditions are met.
The locations of NDACC, WOUDC and SHADOZ stations can be overplotted.
You can zoom in and out, view individual climatologies, and get more information if you click on the map.
