Development of Global Reactive Gases Aspects for the Copernicus Atmospere Monitoring Service

In CAMS_42 we provide support to the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) regarding the analysis and forecast of global reactive gases. For this we continue to develop a module within ECMWF’s Integrated Forecasting System (IFS) that describes tropospheric chemistry, originating from the TM5 model. This version has been extended with stratospheric chemistry while also two alternative C-IFS atmospheric chemistry versions are in development as “second opinions” to the operational version. The project will lead to a thorough review of the respective chemistry mechanisms, and provide a closer interaction with aerosol modelling. Also an interactive surface deposition scheme will be developed.
